: Asexuality Q & A (by grasexuality)

asexualeducation:

Standard Definitional Disclaimer: Asexuality refers here to a sexual orientation among humans. It does not have anything to do with biology, whether that means the biology of non-human asexually reproducing species, or humans with non-standard anatomy (if you’re looking for that, google intersex…

I’m sorry but you can “expose” me and call me names all you want.
I’m proud of who I am.

Wow, if someone did that to me (not the expose part, but calling me those names and shit) I would report his ass. In short, that guy sounds like an ass.

People these days.

l'amour et la violence: And another thing.

shortcircuithuman:

Lemme address the excuses people have come up with for me on why I am asexual.

There’s something wrong with your hormones.
Yeah, uh, no. I’ve gotten that checked, actually.
They’re fucking fine. They’re normal.

It’s probably because of a childhood trauma or something.
You know what, looking at…

A Study in Sherlock: Sexuality, Self Insertion and Stupidity.

A little vlog in response to Adele’s post on asexuality and the Sherlock fandom which you can catch over here.

This is just my two pence really, as I state in the video, I was originally going to only write a response yet I found it much more apt to make a video one.

Oh and I apologise for the length of this! However, like I say in the video, I only hope that this resonates with someone else out there :)

This is really oversimplified and inaccurate.  There’s already a lot of misinformation and erasure of asexuality as it is, so it bugs me when I see stuff like this going around.

Asexuality means not wanting to have sex.  I identify as demisexual (a type of grey-asexuality) I can be physically attracted to someone without wanting to screw them. Some asexuals aren’t sexually attracted to anyone at all, while others are but just don’t have sexual urges.  And still others have limited sexual urges, such as being autosexual or only having them after knowing someone a very long time.

“Asexuality means not wanting to have sex.”

Um, no.

There are plenty of asexuals who want to have sex. Like, a lot. Plenty of asexuals have sex drives, it has nothing to do with their asexuality- which is a lack of sexual attraction. Libidos are (mostly) not tied to sexuality.

Demisexuals or grey-a asexuals experience sexual attraction from time to time, yes, so one can still be asexual while being sexually attracted to some people, of course, if that is what you meant.

But asexuality does not mean ‘not wanting sex’. There are some asexuals who enjoy sex, and plenty who do not (myself included). Saying that asexuality means ‘not wanting sex’ erases the part of the community that does have (or want) sex. You can lack sexual attraction (either entirely or just occasionally) and still want and enjoy sex.

[photo of a textbook focusing on the words “In one British survey, of the 18,876 people contacted, 1 percent were reportedly asexual, having ‘never felt sexually attracted to anyone at all’ (Bogaert, 2004)”] from my AP Psych book, it starts next semester and not looking forward to March 8, ‘sexual motivation’, but at least this is in there.
